SwissPeaks take a ‘Trip’
round the world (monthly)!
Since November 2004
SwissPeaks have acted as analysis partner and data processing consultants on a
major research program, TripVision that examines all aspects of past, current
and future traveller behaviour patterns.
TripVision combines quantitative and qualitative research in order to obtain a
full picture of traveller market size, aspects of trip experience (e.g. method
of travel, total cost, booking methodology), attitudinal data relating to travel
specifically and life generally, and complete demographic information.
Recently the project has switched to web interviewing (CAWI) only, from the
historical use of a mixed collection methodology of CATI and CAWI, because the
targeted number and profile of respondents can be reached more efficiently via
the web. The experience of 18 months fieldwork has emphasised that older age
groups and lower social grade respondents are using the web in sufficient
numbers.
SwissPeaks are involved from sampling to the final analysis stage of the
project. Data is recoded from collection software to a format that allows for
combination of historical CATI data with current and historical CAWI data. By
definition the questionnaire is in a constant state of evolution - among the hot
topics to have featured during the lifecycle of the project are sections on the
Asian Tsunami and Terrorist attacks in London. Each month the analysis
specifications are updated to take account of new/changed questions in the
current month.
The current month data is aggregated with historical data, weighted and
universed to the UK adult population. The data is loaded into Pulsar desktop
analysis software, and uploaded to SwissPeaks secure Data Portal for continuous
access by our research partner client, TripVision Ltd and associated end-user
clients. Every end-user client that receives the data using this method has
received general training in Pulsar analysis software via SwissPeaks, and a
bespoke course specifically relating to analysis of Trip data within Pulsar.
“The SwissPeaks data portal is constantly growing and we are now displaying
tabular and graphical analysis at several client sites, in addition to utilising
file storage and archive features. It has become an invaluable communication and
file handing application for us.” – Simon Stephen, project manager to
the TripVision project and Managing Director of SwissPeaks.
